International Planning and Geography Practice
I have participated in international collaborations for Geographical Assessments in Indigenous and Afro-Latin descent Politics of Territorial Rights and Autonomy in Bolivia, Colombia, and Brazil and planning studios in informal areas of the Dominican Republic and Mexico. This long-term collaborative work has helped me to keep important academic networks of research and advocacy. Our collective work is now part of ongoing scholarly publications.
My collaborative work draws on methods developed in critical geography, planning, and gender studies to show how people’s social actions shape space/place, how lived experiences reveal agency and subjectivity, and how gender produces various, shifting identities. I also draw on ethical and critical pedagogies developed in Latin American Studies to ensure that the community could carry on the capacity-building process, recognizing participants as co-researchers to establish democratic learning processes.
